Episode 141: What is your Definition of Success?

What does success mean to you?  Most people think that being successful is having lots of money, nice cars, clothes, and being famous.  Those are all good things to have, but if you have those things does it mean you are successful? I know rich people that have everything that I just said, but they aren’t happy.  Wouldn’t you think happiness should be a big part of your success?  Everyone has their own version of success and my definition of success is doing the things that you love, being the best at what you do, and personally getting better every single day.

If you are a musician, try to be the best musician that you can possibly be.  If you build houses, build the most magnificent and strong houses you can make.  If you are a speaker like me, be the best speaker you can possibly be and make the biggest impact on your audience every time you step on that stage.

Most people compare themselves to others and get frustrated because they think they could never be as successful as them.  I think the only person you should be comparing yourself to is the person you see in the mirror. YOU!  That’s the person you should be competing with every single day.  Be your personal best and compete with yourself every single day.  Get better every day and make sure tomorrow you are better then the person you saw in the mirror the day before.

All of the hugely successful people that you see didn’t get there overnight.  They spent years mastering their craft and getting better.  They made lots of mistakes, had much failure, and probably had many times they wanted to give up.  But they didn’t give up.  What got them to where they are today was being consistent, persistent, and never giving up.  If you never give up, you will eventually get to where you want to go.  It may take 1, 3, 5, or even 10 years, but hard work will pay off with time.

Most people give up within the first few months or year. It took me 4 years to get to where I am and I’m just getting started.  I have so much to do in life yet.  Seeing the success I have had after 4 years of hard work has given me the proof that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and never give up.

I believe I am successful because I am doing what I love, living life to the fullest, and working hard to be the best at what I do.  I will never stop mastering my craft until the day I die.  Now that is what I call success.

What is your definition of success?  Are you achieving it?  Find your own success and stop comparing yourself with others.  Look in the mirror every single day and ask yourself how you will reach your personal best and get better every single day.  If you do that, you will find success.
