Jeff Amerine: Startups and How to Get Investment
In this episode we have Jeff Amerine who is the founder of Startup Junkie Consulting, a venture catalyst company that helps drive startup movement in emerging regions. If you were to ask me what this company does I would tell you that they put magic into your company and help turn it into a profit machine. If you have the drive and tenacity to run your company, then the Startup Junkies are the missing piece to your puzzle that you need. They have a mastermind group that has taken decades to gain and have connections with investors where money grows on trees.
To date Jeff has held senior leadership positions in eight startup ventures and three Fortune 500 companies, and has made more than 60 angel investments in early-stage ventures!
I don’t know anyone that has more experience in startups and investing then this guy, and if I did I certainly would be having them on the show.
Some Questions I ask:
- What are 2-3 things that are key to running a successful business?
- How do you find the right kind of people to join your team?
- What makes a company attractive to an investor?
- When pitching to an investor what are they thinking about?
- What has been your most successful investment?
- What things will set people up for success in the next few years?
- What’s it take to be a great leader?
Jeff talks about what it takes to run a startup and how sometimes investors don’t even care about your product, they are more focused on you, your team, and if you have what it takes to win.
Jeff tells some great stories of his experiences over the years including, when he almost sold a previous company for $11 Million but then it fell through at the last minute leading to the failure of the company, he talks about his most recent investment that got him 4X his initial investment in a few years, and also talks about a company that went from 100,000 Likes on FB to 8,000,000 in a short period of time.
The top 3 Books that Jeff Suggests are:
- “Running Lean” by Ash Maurya
- “Venture Deals” by Brad Feld
- “Youtility” by Jay Baer
